Efficiency and driving pleasure: new KONA Hybrid.
New KONA Hybrid uses electric energy to allow you to travel more kilometers with each tank of petrol without having to recharge the battery or change your driving habits. KONA Hybrid is equipped with a petrol engine and an electric motor powered by a battery that is recharged independently by the regenerative braking system, without you having to take care of it. The hybrid drive system guarantees incredible fuel efficiency.

The 1.6 GDi direct injection petrol engine and battery electric motor work together to deliver extraordinary performance with a combined output of 141PS/104kW.

Energy flow: how KONA Hybrid works.
Depending on the driving situation, the KONA Hybrid seamlessly switches between the petrol engine and the electric motor, sometimes activating both at the same time. The regenerative braking system recharges the battery by storing energy as the car slows down. This energy then powers the electric motor to aid in acceleration, driving up hills and driving at low speeds. This flow of energy is illustrated in the following animations.
Starting/Low speeds.
When starting or traveling at low speeds, the electrical energy stored in the battery powers the electric motor to allow the KONA Hybrid to accelerate.
Acceleration\Climb.
During intense acceleration or uphill climbs, the electric motor and petrol engine work in parallel to maximize efficiency and minimize fuel consumption.
Constant speed.
At constant speed, power can be provided by the petrol engine or the electric one, depending on which is more energy efficient in the specific situation.
Slowdown/Descent.
The regenerative braking system recharges the battery by using the electric motor to slow the car. When decelerating or driving downhill, the energy generated is stored in the battery.
Regenerative braking.
When slowing down, such as when braking or going downhill, the electric motor works like a generator, thus recovering kinetic energy and transforming it into electrical energy, which is then stored in the battery.

New KONA Mild Hybrid 48V.
DReduce fuel consumption and emissions with the 48-volt Mild Hybrid system, available with the 1.0 T-GDi petrol engine (MHEV). The system supports the combustion engine with additional torque during acceleration, depending on the state of charge of the battery and the degree of acceleration. The result is fuel savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
